Biography
I began my computer career working for the Office of the Attorney General where I learned a lot about computers and developed a fascination with them. I seemed to have a natural knack for the job and my business training was a huge help. I continued to take courses and advance in the field. I’ve done everything from data entry to networking, MIS, and computer repair. I feel my job history has taught me valuable information in all aspects of the computer field that I can pass on to my students.
Date of hire: September 2000 - Permanent Teacher
1997 – Substitute Teacher
April 2000 – Long Term Substitute Teacher
Education
I was originally a psychology major but began taking education courses when I was hired at RMCTC.
Certifications
In addition to several computer and printer repair certifications, I received my A+ Certification and Cisco Fundamentals of Web Design Certification.
Experience
I spent 16 years in various areas of the computer field including networking, MIS, and computer repair.
Community Service
I feel community service is very important. I often say, “If you’re not part of the solution, you’re part of the problem.” I try to model this to my students by being active in the community. I serve on the board of Shady Hollow Assisted Riding. Shady Hollow provides a supportive equine environment where individuals with physical, cognitive and/or emotional disabilities can experience therapeutic, social and educational rewards. My students work on the Shady Hollow web site as a class project. I am also the advisor of the Reading Muhlenberg National Technical Honor Society (NTHS). This year, the NTHS is holding our first Relay for Life event to benefit the American Cancer Society.
Interests
When I’m not at school, I enjoy spending time with my family and restoring our 150+ year old home. During summer break, you’ll find me at the pool or the beach reading a good book.
Message
The computer field is evolving rapidly. Students with the desire to learn the basics of the field and go on to post-secondary education can expect to be highly paid professionals. I enjoy sharing my knowledge with the students of Reading Muhlenberg CTC and invite parents to join me in helping their children succeed.
