This diverse course prepares its graduates with the necessary skills required of today’s cabinetmaker. Special emphasis is placed on developing an appreciation for fine craftsmanship, as well as the design and creation of furniture and cabinetry. Since cabinetmaking is a primary component to all woodworking and millwork, its basic skills and knowledge are needed by most people who work with wood and wood products. The program stresses the care and safe use of the hand tools and powered machinery used in the production of cabinets, furniture, and general millwork.
Technology has advanced within this career to include training on computerized machinery. Creativity is encouraged with opportunity to acquire industry certifications. This training will give a well rounded preparation for the future, whether it be post-secondary education or entry level employment.
Students in the Cabinetmaking & Finish Carpentry Program will gain real life work experience by participating in the construction of a student-built modular home project. This live, project provides a unique opportunity for students in the Construction related programs. Students in these programs practice and develop their skills and knowledge better while building a home that someone will actually live in one day. This experience helps to prepare them to go right to work in the construction industry or continue their education at a college or trade school.
